ADMINISTRATION Department
The Administrative staff, under the direction of the Board of Trustees, assist in the administration, enforcement, and execution of the policies and resolutions of the Board.
The Administrator supervises and directs the activities of the affairs of the various divisions of township government, recommends measures for adoption to the Board, and keeps the Board fully advised on the financial conditions of the township.

Mr. Thomas joined Sylvania Township as Administrator on July 1, 2006. His duties
include but are not limited to effectuating policy set by the Board of Trustees,
strategic planning, public relations, and personnel management.
Mr. Thomas comes to Sylvania Township from the Green Bay, Wisconsin area where he
served as the Administrator of the Village of Howard. His education includes a Bachelor
of Arts – Political Science, 1974 from Kent State University and Master of Public
Administration, 1991 from Cleveland State University.
Mr. Thomas' past experiences includes: eleven years municipal experience as Chief
Executive Officer or Chief Administrative Officer, fifteen years experience in county
planning and economic development and five years experience in county public works
administration. A few of his professional affiliations include: The International
City/County Management Association, The American Planning Association and the American
Institute of Certified Planners.
Mr. Thomas and his wife Carol, have 3 children.

Susan Wood

Susan started with the Township in February of 2003 as Assistant Administrator.
Graduating from Northwest State Community College, Susan began her career in the
private sector where she lastly served as the Human Resource Manager for an automotive
company. In 1997 Susan accepted the position as Clerk for the Board of County Commissioners.
Susan’s husband Steve is a State Structural Inspector. They have three adult children.
Two daughters are cosmetologists and a son that is the Assistant Superintendent
at Sylvania Country Club.
In her spare time Susan has served on her local Chamber of Commerce, United Way,
Treasurer of the Airport Board and is very much involved in the Disciples of Christ
Church.
