The department provides emergency response from four locations throughout the community, all staffed with a combination of career firefighter/paramedics and part-time firefighter/EMT's. Career personnel work 24-hour shifts within a schedule known as the platoon system. Part-time employees supplement the fulltime personnel on shift work and as needed. Platoon scheduled firefighters begin their tour of duty at 0700 hours and work until 0700 hours. During this period they respond to calls for service and accomplish numerous other activities including station work, physical and job related training, fire prevention and education. Currently, a minimum of three personnel are assigned to Stations #2, 3 and 4 and five personnel to Station #1 on each shift. Two of the Fire Fighter-Paramedic personnel at Station #1 are dedicated to the Lucas County Life Squad which Sylvania operates under contract with the County. The Sylvania Township Fire Department operates a minimum of three ALS Engine Companies, one ALS Truck company and the Lucas County Life Squad twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The fire fighters at "#3's" and "#4's" have the ability to cross-staff the engine or ladder truck, meaning that the on-duty crew will respond in the apparatus that is most useful at the scene.
- Three 2009 KME pumpers equipped with a full compliment of fire fighting equipment. These units carry hydraulic auto extrication rescue equipment.
- STFD Rescue Engines are "All Hazards" fire companies: with the current staffing levels, engine companies provide the most efficient way deliver trained and equipped personnel to a wide array of emergency situations including medical emergencies, fires and vehicle accidents.
- Staffed with a Lieutenant or an Acting Lieutenant and a minimum of two firefighter/EMTs or firefighter/paramedics.
- Capable of providing progressive pre-hospital care via advanced airway management, IV therapy and Cardiac Monitoring.
- 2010 Seagrave Tractor-Drawn Aerial Ladder truck is equipped for search and rescue, ventilation and fire suppression. The unit also is equipped with a full set of hydraulic cutters and spreader rescue tools.
- Staffed by a minimum of a Lieutenant and two firefighter/EMTs or firefighter/paramedics.
- Capable of providing progressive pre-hospital care via advanced airway management, IV therapy and Cardiac Monitoring.
- Staffed with a minimum of two Sylvania Township firefighter/paramedics.
- Operates as a part of the Lucas County Tiered EMS System.
- Equipped with vital EMS supplies and equipment to deliver the most progressive pre-hospital care in Lucas County.
