Members of the first graduating class formed the Sylvania Township Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (S.T.C.P.A.A.A.) in 2000. The S.T.C.P.A.A.A. allows Academy graduates to maintain a relationship with the Sylvania Township Police Department in a number of ways.
The Alumni Association meets on a bi-monthly basis and each meeting begins with a presentation by a guest speaker. Guest speakers come from a variety of agencies (including officers from the Sylvania Township Police Department) in an effort to provide a means of continuing education to the S.T.C.P.A.A.A. membership.
The S.T.C.P.A.A.A. supports the Sylvania Township Police Department and the Sylvania community by volunteering at events such as Safety Township, the Independence Day fireworks celebration, the Sylvania Township Police Department Open House & Safety Fair, the Sylvania Township Police F.O.P. Golf Outing, the Sylvania Township and Sylvania City Law Enforcement Scholarship Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, and more.
The S.T.C.P.A.A.A. conducts a picture sale at Safety Township each year. This picture sale raises funds that the group has used to purchase items for the STPD including a display cabinet for the lobby of the police station, tasers, and PBTs (portable breath testers). The S.T.C.P.A.A.A. was also a sponsor of the first Sylvania Township Police Department Open House and Safety Fair that took place in October of 2006 and has contributed funds to the Sylvania Area Family Services Diversion Program.

In December 2007, the Sylvania Township Police Department launched a Citizen Patrol consisting of eight volunteers. Members of the Citizen Patrol are graduates of the Sylvania Township Citizens Police Academy and belong to the Sylvania Township Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
The Citizen Patrol is an extension of the S.T.C.P.A.A.A. that expands their ability to serve the Sylvania Township Community. The Citizen Patrol works in partnership with the Sylvania Township Police Department and supplements the efforts of its sworn officers in keeping the community a safe and enjoyable place to live, work, and visit.
Volunteers patrol designated areas in a marked Sylvania Township Citizen Patrol Vehicle and wear the Citizen Patrol Uniform, both bearing their distinctive burgundy and yellow logo. Citizen Patrol volunteers conduct high visibility, crime prevention patrols and act as observers and reporters of criminal and/or suspicious activity. Citizen Patrol Volunteers do not carry firearms and are not sworn police officers.
All members of the Citizen Patrol have received specialized training and undergone extensive criminal history checks. Members of the Citizen Patrol must follow all rules, regulations, and standards of conduct set forth by the Sylvania Township Police Department.
This program is supervised by Officer Sarah Toth. If you have any questions about the Citizen Patrol or would like more information, please contact Officer Toth in the Community Affairs Office, 419-882-7878.
