Employment Information

The Sylvania Township Police Department offers to its employees an attractive salary and benefits package, training, and varied assignments within the department. The officers on our department also enjoy weapons certification and training in our very own indoor firing range and outdoor training facility located just minutes from our station.

Our department accepts applications for the position of police officer approximately every 2 years, and other positions such as police/fire dispatcher and clerical on an “as-needed” basis. We always advertise in the Toledo Blade, Sylvania Herald and Toledo Journal when we accept applications, as well as posting the most current information here on our website. After applications are accepted, qualified applicants participate in a competitive examination and an eligibility list is established.

Requirements for the position of police officer are:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • U.S. citizen
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 64 semester (96 quarter) hours of college credit at an accredited college or university (or completion of Associates Degree)
  • Possess current Ohio Peace Officer’s Academy Certification by May 30, 2008.
  • Able to produce valid driver’s license at time of appointment
