SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP ADMINISTRATION - FISCAL OFFICER
The Fiscal Office of the township duties are defined in the Ohio Revised Code, Charter 507 and various other sections of the revised code. In Section 507.04 the fiscal officer is required to keep an accurate record of the proceedings of the board of township trustees at all of its meetings, accounts and transactions, including the acceptance of bonds of township officers.

More specifically, some of the fiscal officer duties include recording all of the incoming revenue for all departments, issuing all purchase orders when proper approvals have been attained, issuing all payments on behalf of the township, maintaining the general ledger for all township departments and funds, monitoring all investment committee and trustees monthly. In many ways the fiscal officer serves as a “check” in the checks and balances of the government.  Township trustees can authorize the expenditure of funds, but monies must be available in township accounts for the fiscal office to authorize a township check. However the trustees can in many instances authorize movement of monies from one account to another and in those instances the fiscal officer must authorize the check.

The fiscal office strongly supports an “open book” policy. All township financial records are open for review by township citizens. Online access and copies are always available.
