Lucas County commissioners will meet October 29 to determine whether to approve an annexation request by the City of Sylvania for 33 parcels of residential property currently in Sylvania Township.
The annexation issue was resisted by several residents after Sylvania sent letters to 105 properties telling the owners they were required to sign a petition to be annexed. The city contended that residents signed a document saying they would not resist annexation when those residents signed up for water service or previous owners had signed such a document and it was still in force.
Residents criticized the action at Sylvania city council meetings and at meetings of the Sylvania Township trustees. Trustees have hired an attorney to aid property owners in fighting the move.
The letters from the city went to properties in subdivisions including The Meadows, Parklands and Country Walk.
County Commissioners will hear the annexation issue at 2 p.m. in the commissioners hearing room at 2 p.m. in Government Center, Jackson Street between Erie and Huron streets.
