Sylvania Township trustees have approved a contract for approximately $1.4 million with Bowers Asphalt and Paving for work involving ditch enclosures along Wolfinger Road and essentially rebuilding the western portion of the road.
The contract with the Walbridge firm also calls for ditch improvements along Ronaldo and St. Charles, in the area of Bancroft and Wilford.
Rob Nash, Sylvania Township road superintendent, said the ditch enclosure is necessary to make Wolfinger roadway project feasible. He said much of the design for the improvements are meant to improve safety. He pointed to the angled intersection of Wolfinger and Irwin Road, saying that now if a motorist went slightly off the roadway they would likely go into the ditch.
The enclosure there and to the east along Wolfinger will keep that from happening, he said.
Sylvania Township workers have been along the roadway cutting back vegetation so the project can get underway, Mr. Nash said.
It is a project of the Ohio Public Works Commission.
