The Sylvania Township police department is accepting applications for a citizens’ police academy which will begin March 9.
This academy will be split into two sessions. The first will run from March 9 through March 23, with the second session beginning April 6 and running through April 20. Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Those who enroll in the academy will learn about patrol operations, criminal investigations the use of firearms and tasers, drunk driving arrests, the special response team, use of force and officer safety.
To enroll, one must be at least 21 and work or live in Sylvania Township. Applicants must also pass a criminal records check.

Class size is limited to 10, and the deadline for applications is Jan. 31, 2022. Classes are held at the Sylvania Township Police Station, 4420 King Rd.
