The Sylvania Township police department expects delivery of body cameras for its officers by the end of this month.
Chief Paul Long said the $400,000 contract with Getac is for five years and includes not only body cameras but also all-new dashboard cameras and a new system for storing and transmitting the images from the cameras “to prosecutors and for freedom of information requests.”
The delivery, expected July 26, includes cameras in the station’s two interview rooms.
The chief acknowledged that the cost is a hefty expense, but also noted that the department’s dashboard cameras are near the end of their useful life.
The department also received a state grant of about $84,000 to help defray the cost of the new system.
