Welcome to the Sylvania FIRE-EMS web site. Our department is administered by Sylvania Township. Our Township and City have a combined population of nearly 50,000 residents and is located in Lucas County Ohio, which is in Northwest Ohio. Sylvania Township borders the northwest side of the City of Toledo. Sylvania Township, in which the City of Sylvania is also located, is one of the top ten largest Townships in Ohio. Our department is staffed by career firefighters 24 hours a day from 4 fire stations located throughout the City and Township of Sylvania.
We always strive to provide the best in professional emergency services from our highly skilled firefighters. Our fire-ems team provides the residents and visitors to our Sylvania community the best in fire protection, emergency medical services, fire prevention/community risk reduction and public safety education. Our department also offers a myriad of additional safety and educational services.

Fire Department Mission Statement:
Our Mission is to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property damage from fire to our citizens and visitors; to provide high-quality emergency medical services; to mitigate the consequences of natural and man-made disasters; and to provide non-emergency support services within our realm of expertise through highly skilled, trained and dedicated personnel. We will accomplish this mission through fire suppression, emergency medical response, care and transport, rescue, code enforcement, public education, fire investigation, and professional development training. RESOURCE DEPLOYMENT
The Sylvania Township Fire Department (Sylvania Fire-EMS) provides fire and emergency medical response from four fire stations strategically located throughout the community. Fire Station No. 1 is located at 6633 Monroe Street; Fire Station No. 2 is located at 3006 McCord Road; Fire Station No. 3 is located at 5056 Haddon Road, and Fire Station No. 4 is located at 8210 Sylvania Avenue and is the headquarters station.
Personnel staffing is maintained at a minimum of 14 on-duty personnel to deliver services to the residents and visitors of Sylvania Township and the City of Sylvania. Staffing is provided by career fire fighter/paramedics who work a 24-hour shift on-duty and 48-hour off-duty shift rotation, utilizing a three-platoon system. Each platoon begins its regular tour of duty at 0700 hours and works until 0700 hours the following day. During this tour of duty, the crews respond to calls for service and accomplish numerous other activities including station maintenance, physical fitness training, job-related training, fire prevention inspections, and public fire safety education.
Sylvania Fire operates three Advanced Life Support (ALS) Engine Companies, one ALS Truck company, and Lucas County EMS Life Squad #6 twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Each fire engine and the truck are minimally staffed with three firefighters at all times, the Life Squad with two.
Note: Sylvania Fire provides the personnel staffing and ancillary support for Life Squad 6, stationed at Fire Station No. 1, through a contractual agreement with Lucas County EMS.
Engines 61, 62 and 63
Three 2009 Fire Engines have been placed in service as Engines 61, 62 and 63, and are located at the corresponding Fire Station location. These engines are equipped with a full complement of firefighting equipment along with basic vehicle stabilization and hydraulic extrication tools as well as advanced life support (ALS) equipment. Our Sylvania Fire Engines serve as the basic service delivery platform that enables our personnel to effectively operate as an “All Hazards” Department. The term, “All Hazards” is indicative of the level of training and equipment immediately available to safely and proficiently operate on emergency incident scenes to control fires, deliver ALS care on emergency medical calls, mitigate hazardous materials incidents and provide emergency response and support to both man made and natural disasters.
Truck 64
A 2010 Tractor-Drawn 100’ Aerial Ladder Truck has been placed in service as Truck 64, and operates full-time as a Truck Company at Fire Station No. 4. As is indicative with our engine apparatus, Truck 64 is equipped with a full complement of firefighting equipment for fire ground service that is typical of truck companies – forcible entry, laddering, search and rescue and ventilation – as well as advanced life support (ALS) equipment. However, Truck 64 is also equipped with a full set of heavy duty hydraulic cutting and spreading rescue tools, heavy duty air lifting bags, heavy duty stabilization struts, emergency lighting and various power saws for cutting, hand tools for prying and forcible entry. Personnel staffing for Truck 64, along with all three Engines, utilizes a minimum of one Lieutenant (or a qualified Acting Lieutenant in their absence) and a minimum of two firefighter/paramedics.
Lucas County Life Squad 6
Life Squad 6 is a 2010 transport unit that operates from Fire Station No. 1. Sylvania Fire provides the minimum personnel staffing of two (2) firefighter-paramedics and ancillary support for Life Squad 6 through a contractual agreement with Lucas County EMS as a part of the Lucas County Tiered EMS system. Life Squad 6, as are all ten Life Squads in Lucas County, equipped with the latest in Cardiac Monitoring, and advanced life support EMS medications and equipment to deliver the most advanced, progressive pre-hospital care in Lucas County
