At the end of C shift at Sylvania Township Fire Station 3 on March 25, Mike Street passed his No. 1 badge to Terry Detmer, denoting that he is now the senior firefighter in the department.
Street, who was given that badge a couple of years earlier, has spent the past 25 years with the department and has worked in every aspect of the job.
Prior to joining the Sylvania Township department, he had been a member of the Lake Township volunteer force, as was his father. He also worked for the Whitehouse department as well serving as a paramedic at the Walker Ambulance Co. and he was with ProMedica Toledo Hospital in various departments.
“This is a young man’s job,” Street reflected. “I have really enjoyed my career and the people I work with. I have many memories of the positive impact we as firefighters and paramedics have made. I even delivered three babies over the years I have been here.”
Street is looking forward to spending more time with his family, enjoying his three grandchildren, traveling, along with more fishing and golf.
