Sylvania Township will conduct a brush pickup for properties in response to the recent rain and wind storm which littered some areas of the township with branches and tree limbs.
Rob Nash, superintendent of the township road and services department, said he will divert some workers from current road work and has secured the help of a private contractor to begin the process on July 19.
Mr. Nash said he had toured the township and said the greatest amount of debris from the storm seemed to be north of Sylvania Avenue and east of Holland-Sylvania Road,
Although the damage to trees and shrubs was less concentrated in other areas of the township, he said it was determined that the best way to serve all the residents was to institute a brush pickup in addition to the two which are performed annually.
Because Batanian Tree Service is contracted to assist in those collections, they will also help township crews in this collection.
Residents are asked to bring damaged brush to the street, but not placed in the street. The collection is not meant for tree removal. Items should be no longer than 6 ft. and no more than 6 inches in diameter.
Mr. Nash noted that he is confident the delay in road work caused by the additional pickup will be made up for over the season.
