Sylvania Township trustees have authorized the hiring of five people as firefighter/paramedics to join the township department in July.
Fire Chief Mike Ramm said the new personnel will put the department at the strength demanded in the contract with the firefighters; union and keeps the manpower on track with what the department promised voters in the successful 2020 levy campaign.
The contract calls for “63 career full-time employees assigned to platoon work.”
The promise during the levy campaign was that the department would have 69 employees fitting that description in 2023.
The addition of five personnel brings the department’s strength to 69.
The chief has been authorized to hire Shawn Bowman, of Walbridge, Reyes Garcia and Adam Grine, both of Toledo, Joshuah Kolasinski, of Lyons, and Kayla Laumann of Perrysburg.
Their employment will become effective July 24.
