BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING SCHEDULE CHANGE
CANCELLED – MARCH 24 & APRIL 4 — SPECIAL MEETING ON MONDAY, MARCH 27 @ 5PM
THE REGULAR SCHEDULE WILL COMMENCE ON APRIL 18

Zone Change Recommended

The Sylvania Township Zoning Commission has recommended a change in zoning for a portion of 8180 West Sylvania Ave.

The Sylvania Fire Department is seeking to acquire approximately 2.4 acres of property at this address from Champion Concrete Supply Company. The property is situated directly north of the grounds at Fire Station #4 just east of Centennial Road.

The property acquisition would provide the Department additional space to construct a new training tower in the future which would replace the current structure off King Road and offer other possible training equipment and structures.

According to Fire Chief Mike Ramm, “This is an opportunity to improve the training abilities for our training bureau. The planned move of the training tower would allow the Department to be better neighbors. I feel this would be a win-win for the community and Department.”

The Department plans to pursue outside funding and grants to support improvements at the site.

The Zoning Department recommended approval of the request based on the rationale that the proposed zone change would not adversely impact surrounding residential properties, is consistent with the zoning resolution; and is harmonious with surrounding uses.

The commission’s recommendation as well as a prior recommendation from the Lucas County Plan Commission were unanimous. The issue is scheduled for consideration by the Sylvania Township Trustees during their March 7 regular meeting.
