Promotions
At the Feb. 6 meeting, the Sylvania Township Board of Trustees approved Police Chief Paul Long's promotions of Kevin Steinman from sergeant to lieutenant and McKenzie Heagney, from officer to sergeant. Following Administrator Oliver Turner’s announcement regarding Police Chief Paul Long’s April 2 retirement, the trustees approved the promotion of Lieutenant Sarah Toth to police chief.

The Sylvania Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to promote Sylvania Township Police Lieutenant Sarah Toth, left, to chief effective April 1, following the retirement of Sylvania Township Police Chief Paul Long, right. Chief Long, who retired as Captain of the Toledo Police Department after serving in that department for 33 years, was hired as the township chief six years ago. Toth has been with the department for her entire career.

Zoning
After the public hearing regarding the re-zoning of the property from R-2, medium-density residential to R-4, high-density residential at 2937 and 2939 Stoneleigh Dr., the trustees voted to approve the request, noting the issue still needs to be taken to the Township Board of Zoning Appeals for further action.

Board of Zoning Appeals
At the Feb. 5 Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, the homeowners’ request for an exception and variance for 3361 Romaker Rd. was granted. The homeowners want to construct an 18-foot by 12-foot, 216-square-foot addition to their residence. As this home was built in 1953 before the Sylvania Township zoning code was enacted the property is considered a legal non-conforming, lot-of-record and any alteration to the property requires a variance approved by the BZA. A variance for a setback was also granted for the addition.
