Township Talk — July 17

BZA ACTION
At the July 10 meeting of the Sylvania Township Board of Zoning Appeals Jason Levine, chairman, and Stephanie Kuhlman, Yuri Osterhout, Tim Schlachter, and Zach Mercer voted against the appeal made by Heather McCoy of 4630 Vineyard Rd. She owns two American Mini Pigs, which is in violation of the Sylvania Township Zoning Resolution prohibiting the raising, breeding, dairying, or maintaining livestock in any platted subdivision. Vineyard Road is in the Scottdale subdivision.

The board also voted against the request for an exception for an addition to a legal non-conforming dwelling by property owner Hadwan Sayouf of 3331 Waldmar Rd. The building addition had been constructed without valid permits and inspections. It has been constructed up to the southern property boundary in violation of zoning.

The board approved the request of Jeff Kaminsky of Fairway’s Restaurant, 8256 W. Central Ave., for a 15-foot variance to erect a gazebo 20 feet away from the public right-of-way of Centennial Road. According to the zoning staff, the variance requested from 35 feet to 20 feet does not present a negative impact upon the public good or on neighboring properties and does not impair visibility and/or safety for drivers. This also does not alter the intent of the Sylvania Township Zoning Resolution.

Chairman Levine noted that this was board member Zach Mercer’s final meeting as he is moving out of Sylvania Township. His replacement is Yuri Osterhout who has served as an alternate to the board.
